Here are some pictures of Rory's room as promised. Considering that we live in ugly military housing and I'm not technically allowed to paint (well, long story, I can but the paint selection sucks here and it's expensive anyway PLUS I'd have to paint it back before we move), I'm proud of what I was able to do.

Here's what it looks like when you first walk in. I was lucky to be able to use a lot of my classroom decorations for Rory's room since the theme was butterflies. I had no idea that I would be going with that theme, nor would the main colors be pink and green, but overall I think it turned out pretty cute ; )

Huey was literally running around the room throwing his soccer ball while I was taking pictures. For those of you that have had the pleasure of meeting Huey, you can picture this taking place. He also raids through Rory's toy selection and has claimed a few stuffed animals and a pricey Sophie the Giraffe squeaky toy. It's a lost cause if I bought another one because he'd just think that one was for him too!

I'm proud of this crib considering we "settled" with what was offered at our BXtra. Cribs are not able to be shipped overseas and the Japanese style cribs do not have the same mattress sizes as American ones so we were really limited on what we could do. I knew I wanted a white one since our furniture in this room was white whicker beforehand. I'm actually not a fan of white whicker anymore but this crib tied in with the rest of the furniture really well because it had the baskets on the bottom. This crib was the floor model so it was scratched up a bit but we were able to get a significant discount and we paid for it with gift cards we received so we really got the crib without paying anything ourselves.

You can tell this is a painted by a beginner (ahem, me) but I was lucky enough to paint this when I was home during the whole earthquake fiasco and I utilized all the materials in Ben's art studio.

I made Rory's framed name thingy above her bed with some Japanese wiener dog fabric that I found at a specialty store in New York AND I've got a beautiful blanket (along with other very cute baby items) made by
Hattie Designs draped across her crib. Check out her etsy site, she's great! The butterfly fabric decals are from Pottery Barn Kids.
Here's a close-up of her name.

Those that knew me in college remember that this was my old bedroom set. At least I'm having a girl...well gosh, I hope I am because this room would NOT work for a boy!

To the right is a toy container that I found in our neighborhood two days ago. We really didn't need anymore furniture but it matched her room perfectly and was in great condition so I couldn't resist. I put a lot of toys in the bins (all given to me by other mamas) so this kid is set! Oh and see the rumpled carpet, that's what Huey likes to do when he runs around in circles.

Ok and I don't know if this is normal for a baby but do you think this kid has enough clothes??? I really don't know what to do because she has SO MUCH STUFF! All very cute by the way but most of them were gifts or handed down from other mamas (I admit, I did by some favorite baby clothes when I was back in the U.S. this past spring.) I had to decline an offer from a mom the other day because I just have WAY too much stuff now and really, I don't think Rory can go through THAT many clothes. I mean, she'll outgrow them before she can wear them all I swear!
Well, that's that. I've packed her bag for the hospital but I still need to pack mine. Considering the hospital is a 1/2 mile down the road, I'm sure I'll have time to get something together in case (I hope) Rory decides to make an early appearance.
AHHHH!!! She is going to be here so soon I can hardly stand it. And her closet gives me goose bumps...I'm so proud, and jealous!! :) So maybe I should not send her clothes which will be hard for me, but what is something else you would like...I need ideas. Love the room, love the decorations, love you. Good luck and keep me posted!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job MOMMA! Miss Sarah and I sent a package for Miss Rory...so keep an eye out! LOVE LOVE the butterflies AND the pink and green!
ReplyDeleteLove Rory's room...and Nolan had a ton of clothes too ;)...your nest kid won't get near as much, unless that's a girl too. I miss that furniture! I hope you are all doing well!!!
