Whoops! It's almost been a month since my last post and for that, I do apologize! The time has been rapidly passing by and there is never a dull moment. It's Friday night here and currently, there's a whole wheat pizza dough rising in the kitchen and fresh tomato sauce simmering on the stove. Let's disregard the fact that I grabbed a handful of gummi bears to tie me over until dinner time. And let's also not focus around the fact that I'm making such a hands-on meal for myself since the hubby is flying tonight. There's a free wine tasting at our local movie theater at 9:30 followed by a first showing of Sex and the City 2! I think it's safe to say that I've got my night planned.
Last week marked an important milestone for our family in that Mike was promoted to Captain. Of course I'm totally proud of him but I'm also quite fond of the increased paycheck that will be coming my way. Yes, I said MY way! To celebrate, we hosted a huge cookout for the the happy captains at our house. Now, usually I have quite a great time at cookouts. This one happened to be a luau theme and I even took a 1/2 day off from work to help prepare for the big event. However, the night didn't turn out exactly as planned and lets just say there was a lot of cleaning up to do afterwards... Not fun.
Also of importance was that Mike and I celebrated our one year Japanniversary! I can't believe a year has gone by already but we've still got 2 more to go to explore this side of the world. On our wish list of places to visit in Japan is Okinawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Sapporo. We'd also love to go to Hawaii, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. Hold me to it and remind me if you don't see it on our blog because we WILL go to these places. What's stopping us???
This week has been hectic and flew by ridiculously fast. We only have one more week left of school and then, SUMMER vacation! Mike's parents and sister will be visiting in early July, Mol and Ben in early August and hopefully Mike's brother and his girlfriend soon after. Somewhere in between, I plan on catching a hop back to the states for two weeks. We'll see how that pans out.
So life has been simple and humbling all the same. Here are some pictures for you to admire ; )
Amanda made this cake all by herself! Her husband was promoted as well. It had a marshmallow fondant with lemon sponge cake and a raspberry preserve. I couldn't believe she actually painted it herself!

I'm sorry your luau didn't turn out quite as planned, but your table was sure cute, and I'm excited for Mike's promotion! I can't wait to see posts about your upcoming traveling!
ReplyDeleteYEA! Congratulations Mike!
ReplyDelete(And I'm crossing my fingers to see if you get to come over to this side of the tracks!)
Congratulations to Mike! I'm sorry your cookout didn't turn out as you planned. And yes, you have to make it to those places...I'm so jealous!
